In response to God’s call as missionaries, the Newharts set out on their journey of seeing the Lord glorify Himself through the establishing of churches in upstate New York. In 1968, Gary and Nancy went to Kinderhook, New York, and founded the Bible Baptist Church of Ghent. This was the beginning of their missionary endeavors. Then, in 1972, the Newharts were beckoned again by God to “go”. They moved on and began a new church in Rochester, New York, in the suburb of Henrietta. They founded the Henrietta Regular Baptist Church and one of the area’s first Christian schools.

The Newharts’ Life Verse: Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6

The Calling of God to New Horizons

Now, after more than twenty-eight and a half years of service to Henrietta Regular Baptist Church, the Lord has once again called Gary to “go”. This time, the Lord has led him to the greatest challenge of his life: becoming the Executive Director of Independent Gospel Missions. Gary will be at the helm, as he and the godly men of IGM’s Mission Council articulate a most comprehensive strategy for seeing the 10/40 window evangelized.

Gary’s attitude towards serving the Lord has been to find out what God is doing and to get involved in it. It is his prayer that you can plainly see God’s plan unfolding in his life and the leadership of Independent Gospel Missions.
