Jacob and Jamie Sechrest, South Africa — A Fun Summer
Fun and Fruitful
“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.” Galatians 6:9
This has been one of the most exciting and fruitful summers we have ever had. It’s been busy and fun. June started off with Jamie and I celebrating our 12th anniversary. Next was junior camp. Levi turned 8 in May and just made the mark for getting to go this year. It was his first year going to camp and he thoroughly enjoyed it. However, he wasn’t completely alone as we were able to go as sponsors and help wrangle 140+ kids. We had a great week, and there were more than 20 kids who responded to the gospel. A few were ones we had brought! We praise the Lord for those decisions of faith. We were also able to present the ministry in South Africa in a new church. Praise the Lord they have decided to partner with us! Our support is above 80% and climbing. Our goal is to be in South Africa next spring.
The beginning of July we had a great time with VBS, where more professions of faith were made — not only kids but their parents too! We traveled through Illinois, Indiana and Pennsylvania in July and August to report to churches and present the ministry in South Africa. While in PA, we were close to Shanksville, and visited the flight 93 memorial for the first time. It was a humbling experience and reminded us of the brevity of life, the bravery we should all have, and the “brotherhood” of humanity we should not take for granted as we so often do.
Throughout August there have been outreaches such as a, “Willy Wet Water Day,” “BLAST” summer ministry closing, and “Awana Kickoff”. These have all been ways of having fun, getting the gospel out, and ministering to the community. Several have responded that they are unsure of their salvation and efforts are being made to give them assurance. I have personally had the joy and privilege of leading 4 people to Christ!
On the home-front, Jamie is pregnant with #5 and due the beginning of January! She is also getting busier as she starts a new year of homeschool with two students. Levi is in third grade while Ronan started Kindergarten. Despite all that is going on inside and outside her body, she is doing well, but would appreciate your prayers for strength.
